ECLAC makes available the document “The future of aging: Public policy options” prepared using the National Transfer Accounts (CNT) methodology.

This document analyzes some emblematic dates related to changes in the age structure of the population and presents illustrative scenarios for Argentina, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Peru. The scenarios presented are based on various simplifying assumptions that allow evaluating the sustainability of the practices and policies in force: the maintenance of the current reasons for economic and fiscal support, in addition to the absence of changes in the consumption patterns of private goods and services. and public.

The estimates generated through the National Transfer Accounts (CNT) provide a valuable source of information for a more detailed analysis of these and other national policy options. Likewise, the document presents public policy options related to aging and focused on extending working life, eliminating the gender gap in labor income, increasing taxes and investing in education, to increase years of schooling. .
