ECLAC expresses its condolences and solidarity in the face of the devastating earthquake that shook Turkey

In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, dated February 10, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) expressed its “deep sadness and concern over the devastating effects of the earthquake” that shook to that country on February 6 and conveyed its solidarity for the irreparable loss of life caused by this sad event.

Turkey has been a member state of ECLAC since July 25, 2017.

Below is the full text of the letter signed by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the regional organization of the United Nations:

It is with deep sadness and concern that we have learned of the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6.

On behalf of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and on my own behalf, I wish to convey to you and the families of your people our solidarity and our fraternal condolences for the irreparable loss of life caused by this sad event.

Likewise, we express our attentive concern for the people affected, for the injured and for the victims.
