The Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC) together with the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) began a collaboration to revitalize the Economic Districts of the City, and especially the Technological District. ECLAC went to Buenos Aires as a technical collaborator to learn first-hand about the project.
During its mission, ECLAC met with universities, companies and unions in the sector to establish a roadmap and study strategies that could provide new dynamism to the area, especially after the harsh impact that the pandemic had on the technology sector. With this logic in mind, ECLAC proposed promoting synergies between companies and the administration, investing in human capital and encouraging innovation and technological development.
The creation of the District began in 2008 as an initiative of the municipality to promote development in peripheral areas and enhance strategic sectors beneficial to the city. To date, the Parque Patricio Technology District is home to more than 300 companies in a total area of 300,000 m², generating more than 23,000 jobs. In addition, companies that settle in the District enjoy a series of tax benefits in order to encourage their establishment. Among the activities carried out in the sector are software development, artificial intelligence and biotechnology, among others.
Precisely, this technical cooperation aims to energize the business and academic fabric, in order to ensure that the Economic Districts contribute effectively to the social and financial progress of the city. That is why, after the meeting, ECLAC and the Government of CABA agreed to continue collaborating to promote the consolidation of the District.
