Ebrard announces Sheinbaum meeting with Mexican and US businessmen to explain judicial reform

( Spanish) – Marcelo Ebrard, appointed as the next Secretary of Economy by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, announced this Wednesday that on October 15, Sheinbaum will meet with the main businessmen of Mexico and the United States to explain how the judicial reform will be implemented.

He added that during the US-Mexico CEO Dialogue summit they will address other issues, such as energy and infrastructure, and reiterated that the country offers certainty to investors.

“There we will show them that in the United States there has been an election of judges for many years. Of course we have taken into account the experiences they have had there,” Ebrard told reporters after meeting with Sheinbaum.

On his X account, Ebrard added that the meeting “will be a success” and that “there is enormous interest” from American companies in investing in Mexico.

Prior to the approval of the judicial reform, the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, expressed concern that the reform would generate uncertainty. López Obrador said that he would put the relationship with the diplomatic representative on “pause” because he considered that he should not give an opinion on these matters, and the Mexican foreign ministry expressed its surprise in a note sent to the American embassy.

The amendment, promoted by current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – who signed his decree this Sunday – has generated controversy, mainly because it contemplates the election of judges, magistrates and ministers by popular vote.
