Early elections in France: uproar over possible alliance between conservatives and Le Pen

This Tuesday, June 11, the traditional French right is in the middle of an internal crisis after the president of Los Republicanos (LR), Éric Cenotti, announced his support for an agreement with the far-right National Rally party (AN), of the former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, ahead of the early elections, with the first round on June 30 and the second on July 7. Many LR members brand Cenotti a “traitor.” Meanwhile, the left calls for forming a new “united front” to run in the elections. The French will go to the polls earlier than expected, after President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly, due to the failure of his party against the far-right party of Le Pen, in the elections to the European Parliament, which concluded last Sunday 9 of June.
