The measure would affect citizens of Spain, among other countries
September 18 () –
The Russian State Duma Committee on Family, Parenthood, Motherhood and Childhood Protection on Tuesday urged lawmakers to approve in the first reading a bill seeking to ban citizens of countries that allow sex reassignment from adopting Russian children.
The legislation was introduced in July by a group of lawmakers led by House Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to prevent guardianship or adoption by citizens of countries “where sex reassignment through medical intervention is permitted, including the use of drugs intended for sex reassignment, including the formation of primary and secondary sexual characteristics of the opposite sex in a person,” Russian news agency TASS reported.
In addition, it is also planned to include those countries that allow “changes in identity documents relating to the sex of a foreign citizen and without appropriate medical intervention.”
This measure would affect nationals of Spain, Australia, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Canada, Norway, Finland, Switzerland and Estonia.
