Drone attack damages oil depot in Russia’s Smolensk region

A drone attack allegedly carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces has caused an oil leak and a fire in a fuel depot in the Russian region of Smolensk, located in western Russia, local governor Vasily Anokhin has denounced.

The incident took place in the Yartsevo district, when one of the unmanned devices was shot down by Russian defense systems and its remains fell on the aforementioned depot. The governor, who has not offered precise details, has clarified in his Telegram account that there is no risk for residential areas.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has put the number of drones shot down in Russian territory at 68 this Tuesday morning, ten of them over Smolensk. This list also includes 25 interceptions in the Bryansk region and another 17 in the Crimean peninsula, controlled by Russia since 2014.

On the other hand, the Russian air transport agency has reported the suspension of flights at Kazan airport, citing security reasons. The airfield has already suffered similar restrictions in previous days, following attacks attributed to Ukraine.
