Truth: You can be fined for not renewing your license

The renewal of this identification document is a legal requirement that is carried out with the aim of examining the abilities of drivers to be able to use a vehicle without risking their lives and that of others. Failure to do so may result in penalties.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, driving with an expired, tampered or license with a category other than the classification of the vehicle results in a fine of $309,336as well as the immobilization of the car by the transit authorities.

Myth: This deadline also applies if you no longer drive any vehicle

The Ministry of Transportation indicates that people who do NOT drive vehicles should not renew their driving license within this deadline. This process must be carried out if you drive a car, motorcycle or other type of vehicle fleet on the roads of the country.

Truth: the process can also be done virtually

In the case of Bogotá, this procedure can be carried out through the Single Service Window. With this option, citizens can send the necessary documents for the renewal, allowing the process to advance online.

The necessary requirements to carry out the renewal consist of presenting the original document, being in good standing and not having outstanding fines, having a certificate of payment of the request for the procedure and a certificate of medical examinations issued by the Driver Recognition Center (CRC). .

Myth: There is a digital license

The pass is not yet available in electronic format. However, it is a project that is being considered to prevent users from exposing themselves to sanctions.

Although it is not yet possible to have this document in digital form, the information stored in the Single National Transit Registry (Runt) can be consulted online and in real time.
