March 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Army of the Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed this Saturday the death of Fezza Mulalo, alias ‘Seguja’, considered ‘number three’ of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) armed group, who has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State.
Colonel Mak Hazukay, spokesman for the Congolese and Ugandan joint force, explained that ‘Seguja’ died in the clashes that took place between February 27 and 28 in the Mwalika valley, in the Rwenzori region, in North Kivu.
“‘Seguja’ is the head of the political wing of the ADF/MTM, commander of the South Sector/Rwenzori-Mwalika. He is the ‘number three’ of the terrorist group,” Hazukay was quoted as saying by the Congolese news portal Actualité.
The ADF, created in Uganda in the 1990s, suffered a split in 2019 after United Nations and US sanctioned Musa Baluku swore allegiance to the jihadist group Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), under whose flag has been active since then.
The group, especially active in the eastern DRC, may be trying to resume operations in Uganda, from which it withdrew in 2003 after a series of military operations that drastically reduced its ability to carry out attacks in the country. ISCA has claimed several attacks on Ugandan territory in recent months.
The group is accused of various atrocities, including murder, kidnapping, burning, looting and recruiting child soldiers.
