DRC announces the death of an ADF member who would have been the doctor of the group's leader, Musa Baluku

April 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced this Tuesday the death of a member of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), linked to the jihadist group Islamic State, who would have been the doctor of the organization's leader, Musa Baluku.

The spokesperson for the Congolese Army in the territory of Beni, Anthony Mualushayi, has indicated that the man, identified as 'Musa', has died in a “special operation” by the DRC and Ugandan forces in the Migulumugulu forest, in the province of North Kivu (east).

“He is a Rwandan national. He died along with his two guards,” he said, days after the death of another senior ADF official in a forested area of Tingwe, within the framework of operations against the terrorist group in the African country. , according to the Congolese news portal Actualité.

The ADF was created in the 1990s in Uganda and is especially active in eastern DRC, where it has been accused of killing hundreds of civilians. Their objective would be to return to Uganda, where they left in 2003 after several military operations that drastically reduced their capabilities.

The group suffered a split in 2019 after Baluku – sanctioned by the United Nations and the United States – swore allegiance to the Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), under whose banner it has operated since then. DRC and Uganda signed a defense agreement in December 2021 to carry out joint operations in eastern DRC.
