In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Solas, the elf god of lies, wants to tear the Veil that separates Thedas from the demon world and thus restore the immortality and glory of his people. When his ritual goes wrong two of his oldest and most powerful adversaries are freed and his only goal is complete domination of the world. To face this threat Rook, our protagonist and a fully personalized character, will assemble a cast of heroes known as the Guardian of the Veil. Rook and company’s journey to stop these two deities will take them through different corners of Thedas.
Camaraderie “is a fundamental aspect” of the gaming experience, says BioWare. Each comrade who joins the team brings her own story, motivation, and talent tree, and will bring her own experience to the battlefield. Throughout the campaign, players will be able to form different teams with two of the seven available comrades, in order to adapt to certain challenges and create combinations. There is also romance, loss and decisions that will affect the relationships and destiny of each member.
The cast of comrades that Rook will gather throughout a story is as follows:
- Bellara: creative and romantic explorer of the Fade obsessed with discovering ancient secrets.
- Davrin: Bold and charming Gray Warden who has made a name for himself as a monster hunter.
- Emmrich: Necromancer of the Nevarra Duel Watchers who has a skeleton assistant named Manfred.
- Harding: Dwarven explorer with a positive attitude, a ready bow, and magical powers.
- Lucanis: expert and pragmatic assassin who belongs to the lineage of the House of Ravens, a criminal organization known throughout Thedas.
- Neve: cynic fighting for a better future as a private detective and member of the rebellious Shadow Dragons of Tevinter.
- Taash: dragon slayer who belongs to the Lords of Fortune, lives for adventure and doesn’t mind taking risks.
“We want every moment of this expansive story-driven experience in Dragon Age: The Veilguard to be impactful,” says game director Corinne Busche. “Players will travel to more regions than in any other Dragon Age. There they will have to level up and customize extensive skill trees to face increasingly difficult opponents. Plus, combat combines fluid action at every moment with the detailed strategy of role-playing game for which the franchise is known. We are excited to offer players around the world a new taste of this experience that returns to BioWare’s narrative roots in carefully designed and immersive single-player role-playing games.
