As you level up to 50, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s protagonist, Rook, will invest skill points into a talent tree that looks like a constellation and defines your playstyle. There are different types of skills within the tree, each defined by its shape. The large circle is a basic class skill, the diamond is a skill with its own slot, the medium circle is a major skill upgrade or passive, the small hexagon is a trait that modifies an existing class skill, and the small circle is a minor passive or stat boost.
Skill points can be redeemed at any time and at no resource cost. In addition to the talent tree, each of the three available classes, Warrior, Rogue, and Mage, has access to three areas of specialization to further customize playstyle.
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, items, including weapons, armor, and accessories found or purchased, have a progression system. Each item has its own stats and properties that can be upgraded at the Caretaker’s Workshop. The Caretaker’s Workshop, whose offerings increase with your level, also offers the ability to enchant items and skills. Each item or skill can have one enchantment applied to it, and each enchantment can only be used on one item or skill at a time.
Third and last, we have companion progression. Each member of the Veiled Guard has their own level and gains two skill points each time they level up. Companions offer quests to strengthen their bond with Rook and this will be one of the main ways for them to gain experience. There can be a romantic interest between the hero and these secondary characters, but also a friendship. Rook takes two companions into battle and each of them has their own equipment, which can be upgraded and enchanted. They also have skills that can be combined with each other and with Rook’s own.
