“[…] we are delighted to announce a major step forward in the development [de] Dragon Age: Dreadwolf – We just completed our milestone, reaching Alpha! Up to this point, we’ve been working hard on various parts of the game, but it wasn’t until we got to alpha that the game wasn’t unified,” explains Gary McKay. “Now, for the first time, we can experience the entire game, from the opening scenes of the first mission to the very end. We can see, hear, feel, and play everything as one cohesive experience.”
In his message McKay clarifies that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf “is not finished by any means”, but maintains that the alpha phase “is one of the most important milestones in the development of the game for several reasons”. Now BioWare can focus on bringing the visual quality to its final form and polishing the gameplay. You are also in a position to show your work to different people for them to offer feedbackwhich will give the development team “a better perspective on where we should spend more time to improve the experience.”
“In addition, we can now assess the pacing of the game, how relationships evolve over time and player progression, as well as narrative cohesion, which is basically how the story unfolds,” explains Gary McKay. “We can take the story that we’ve written and see if we’re expressing it well through the characters, the dialogue, the cutscenes, and ultimately the player’s journey. Now that we have the ability to play from start to finish, we can work and polish the things that are most important to our fans.”
BioWare is also working on a new Mass Effect, a franchise that celebrates N7 Day on November 7, and Star Wars: The Old Republic, whose new update is still in development.
