Dr. Carlos Molinet assumes as new director of the Institute of Aquaculture of the Austral University of Chile, Puerto Montt Headquarters


The researcher and academic from the Austral University of Chile, Puerto Montt, Dr. Carlos Molinet Flores, was appointed as director of the Aquaculture Institute (IACUI).

According to the Rectory Decree dated October 18, 2022, the professional will be in charge of the Puerto Montt Headquarters Institute, one of the oldest and most prestigious and nationally and internationally recognized areas, for the next 3 years.

Dr. Carlos Molinet Flores is a Marine Biologist and Doctor of Science (Systematics and Ecology) from the Austral University of Chile; and he works from 2005 to date in the same house of studies.

Currently, he also leads the UACh Fisheries Research Program, which aims to develop scientific research on the dynamics of populations exploited by industrial, artisanal and sport fishing in southern Chile, in addition to knowledge transfer.

For four years he was the director of the Master in Environment and Biosafety in Aquaculture; where, thanks to his work, the accreditation and re-accreditation of the program that belongs to the Graduate School of the UACh, Puerto Montt, was achieved.

His main areas of research are the Spatial Dynamics of populations; Benthic Fisheries; Dynamics of Harmful Algal Blooms; and Coastal Management.

In the last 10 years it has been present in more than 50 scientific publications; as well as in various projects and Master’s and Doctorate theses.

Among the main tasks of his management in the direction of the UACh Aquaculture Institute will be the presentation of the Annual Report in which the most important activities of the IACUI in areas such as research, teaching and extension are compiled.
