Dozens injured after train collides with truck in southwestern Russia

Dozens of people were injured on Monday in a collision between a train and a truck in the Russian region of Volgograd, in the southwest of the country, which caused the train to derail.

The RZhD railway company said at least eight of the carriages had left the track after the impact. The number of injured could be as high as 100, given that around 800 passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the impact.

Rescue teams are already at the scene of the accident, while the train service has been suspended for the moment as the victims are treated by the emergency services. The train was covering the distance between the city of Kazan and Adler, in Sochi.
