Trump also officially announced Florida Rep. Mike Waltz as his next national security adviser Tuesday afternoon in a statement.

“I am honored to announce that Congressman Mike Waltz has been appointed to serve in my Cabinet as my national security advisor. Mike is the first Green Beret to have been elected to Congress, and previously served in the White House and the Pentagon. “Mike has been a strong supporter of my America First Foreign Policy agenda, and he will be a tremendous supporter of our pursuit of peace through strength!” Trump added.

Waltz’s wife, Dr. Julia Nesheiwat, a combat veteran, previously served as National Security Advisor during the first Trump Administration.

reported Monday that Trump had chosen Waltz for the job, according to a family source. In office, Waltz will have to navigate a series of geopolitical conflicts that the Trump administration will take on as part of its second term, including the Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Hamas wars.

Previously, the president-elect announced other people who would be part of his cabinet, including Susie Wiles, who would be the general secretary of the White House, Tom Homan, who would serve as the “border czar” and Kristi Noem, secretary of National Security.

Donald Trump would take office on January 20, 2025, but before that, he must comply with the procedure required by the Constitution. For starters, as determined by the Constitution, electors will cast votes for president and vice president in each state capital on December 17, known as the Electoral College. The electoral votes will then be counted in the House chamber on January 6, 2025, with the new Congress present.
