( Spanish) — The government of the Dominican Republic reported this Monday that, so far in the administration of President Luis Abinader, the authorities have seized more than 9,400 kilos of drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana, crack and ecstasy.
In a press release, the government indicated that these figures are equivalent to more than five times those intercepted during the past administration, between 2016 and 2020, when some 1,600 kilos of different drugs were seized.
Authorities added that in connection with these seizures they have apprehended approximately 69,000 people.
The statement added that these figures were offered by the president of the National Directorate for Drug Control of the Dominican Republic, Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, after the weekly government meeting on security.
