In Mexico, Digital girls earn an average of 5,500 pesos a monthaccording to the study “New Businesswomen with Businesses on the Internet” conducted by the Ministry of Economy and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Although this national average is low, some girls are doing better, as is the case of those living in the northwest of the country.

For example, in Chihuahua, girls earn 9,503 pesos per month on average, those in Baja California Sur earn 9,479 pesos, and those in Sinaloa, 8,249 pesos.

The study highlights that the more they take advantage of tools that strengthen their business, the greater the economic income that the nenis can have. This is because they generate greater certainty, confidence and options for the customer to make a purchase online.

The nenis work an average of 54 hours a week, and 80% of them operate without any kind of basic legal registration with any public authority.

In addition, 52% of girls sell online daily or at least once a week.

The presence of nenis stands out in the State of Mexico, 15% of them are located there; followed by Jalisco (8%), Mexico City (7%), Nuevo León (6%) and Veracruz (5%).

At least two out of every five nenis are located in these five entities together.

The nenis also have high levels of education, 72% have secondary or higher education or higher, surpassing independent workers in general (51%), as well as women outside of economic activity due to dedication to home care (37%).

In 2023, the nenis generated an approximate income of 80.2 billion pesos, 9% of the total retail sales of goods and services through social networks.
