Disney+ raises prices in the US: it could soon arrive in Europe

Disney+ ends shared accounts in Spain, you will have to pay €6 more with Extra Access

Disney+ has made some decisions that users have not liked to compete with other streaming giants such as Netflix or HBO. The platform has more advertising than ever with new ad formats, will charge for account sharing and will raise subscription prices.

The United States is the first country to notice the changes with a measure that began to be applied yesterday. The basic plan Disney+ with ads will go from $7.99 per month to $9.99 with 1080p image qualitydownloads for offline viewing and playback on two devices simultaneously.

The premium plan rises from 13.99 to 15.99 dollars with an annual price that will go from 140 to 160 dollars. This package brings improvements in image quality with resolution up to 4K and HDR, playback on four devices at the same time and compatibility with Dolby Atmos.

The company has increased the price of its subscriptions in the United States by two dollars, something that has not surprised customers. The platform already raised the cost of Disney packages in November of last year, and this fall it has followed the same trend.

Disney+ has the largest catalog in its history with streaming services that join Hulu and ESPN Plus. The platform offers exclusive movies and series from The Walt Disney Company group, which includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Star.

The company has confirmed that the changes have gone into effect, but will be applied in the next billing cycle. Disney has not clarified at the moment if the measure will reach other European countries such as Spain.

Disney+ reduced the subscription price in Spain on the occasion of the film’s arrival on the platform Inside Out 2 and series like Agatha All Along from Marvel. The price of the standard package was 1.99 euros for three months, a discount of almost 70% of its usual cost.

The promotion has ended and Spain has joined the rumors of a possible price increase for the current Netflix-style rates in recent days. Current Disney+ subscriptions are 5.99 euros for the standard with ads, 8.99 for the standard and 11.99 for the premium plan.
