Discord disabled more than 55 million accounts in the first half of 2022

Discord blocked more than 55 million user accounts and removed nearly 70,000 servers in the first half of the year 2022, that is, from January to last June.

The company has recently published your latest transparency reportan analysis that began to be carried out in January 2019 and in which it shares the data of the actions taken on accounts and servers who participate in the dissemination of false information on the platform.

Typically, Discord produces these reports in two deliveries a yearwhich refer to two groups of months of the same financial year, which are not always the same. In 2022 it has made a report which corresponds to the months of January to March and, the following, from April to June.

These reports detail the number of accounts that have been disabled for various reasons. Among them, for being spam profilesaccounts that violate the platform’s community policies or that present unsolicited and illegal content.

According to its latest report, between April and June of this year, it disabled a total of 767,363 accounts for exceeding its regulations, not including spam. This represents a decrease of 27 percent compared to the 1,054,358 accounts disabled in the previous quarter.

On the contrary, with respect to accounts deactivated due to spam, the platform indicates that another 27,733,948 accounts were deactivated in the period studied, that is, 6.5 percent more than in the previous quarter, in which they were deactivated 26,017,742 accounts.

This determines that in the months between January and June 2022 a total of 55,573,418 Discord accountsto which is added the disconnection and removal of servers from this service.

Total, 28,370 servers were removed between April and June 2022, that is, 29 percent less than the 40,009 servers deleted during the previous quarter. Therefore, between January and June 2022, 68,379 servers were removed.

Discord has also commented on the nature of the accounts that were disabled in the second quarter studied and has indicated that the majority were blocked to protect children from harmful content (532,498 of them), as well as unsolicited content (147,249), illegal or irregular activities (27,494), violence and graphic content (15,630) or extreme violence (12,531).

On the other hand, 270 of them were deleted for spreading false information, 13,779 for harassment and intimidation or 5,719 for hateful conduct. Additionally, 2,495 of the accounts were deleted for promoting suicide or self-harm.
