Discord announces a new naming system that will force all users to set a new and unique name

discord has announced a change in your naming system which will replace the current one with another unique username, which will force all members to establish a new one in the coming weeks, with the aim of facilitating their identification on the platform.

The communication platform has used since 2015 a naming system headed by the pound sign (#) and four numbers, based on a case-sensitive combination of letters.

This system allows have different users the same name as long as each one establishes a different combinationbut it makes it difficult to locate a specific person, and therefore, to facilitate connections, the company has decided to modify it.

The change in the naming system will occur in the coming weeks and will be mandatory for all users who must choose a new and unique onewhich on this occasion will be preceded by the at symbol (@), as in other social networks.

The platform will notify users progressively when they must change their name, which will be determined by age in her. In other words, a user who has been registered for five years will have priority over another who has been registered for two, as explained on his official blog.

Along with the new username, Discord has reported that there will also be a display name, which will be the one the person will mainly appear on the platform with and how they will appear in direct messages when they do not have a server or friend nickname. Nicknames are another of the names that users can display, although these are optional.
