Dante Minniti, renowned astronomer and researcher, director of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Andrés Bello University, was invited to the podcast “Conversemos de Astronomía” where he spoke about his work mapping our galaxy, his findings and the new missions that will deepen the knowledge of the Milky Way.

Pamela Alarcón, UNAB Journalist.- the standout astronomer and director of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Andrés Bello University, Dr. Dante Minnitiparticipated as a guest in the podcast “Let’s talk about Astronomy” developed by Juan Carlos Beamin, PhD in Astrophysics from UNAB and scientific disseminator.

In the 13th episode of the series, titled “Deciphering the mysteries of the Milky Way with infrared light”, both scientists addressed different topics of astronomy. Among them, the importance of infrared telescopes, how much there is still to discover and the space missions that will help to understand the evolution and structure of the Milky Way.

In «Let’s talk about Astronomy», Dante Minniti referred to the research work he has been developing for twelve years in charge of the Survey VVVa deep sky mapping that seeks to study our Milky Way through the use of infrared telescopes.

The prominent astronomer and director of the recently inaugurated Institute of Astrophysics UNAB explained that the clouds of dust and gas in the galaxy offer very limited vision to optical telescopes, being able to observe only nearby objects. “In contrast, with the infrared telescope we can penetrate those clouds and actually see to the center of the galaxy and beyond,” Minniti said.
