The National Registry of Civil Status continues to promote the digital ID with the aim of providing citizens with access to services that today require the presentation of an identity document.
This mechanism also makes it possible to carry out secure digital processes and prevent impersonation.

According to the entity, in 2022 more than a million people had already obtained the new document and the cities where it was most requested were Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla.
Who can get the digital ID without paying?
As of March 1, 2023, the cost to perform The processing of this identification went from $55,750 to $63,050. However, there are some people who may be exempt from this payment.
Young people who have just reached the age of majority and process their ID for the first time will not have to pay the amount set for its issuance.since the digital version will be included with the delivery of the physical document.
The entity has explained that, once all the technology is installed and 100% coverage in the country, the mass use of the digital ID will be free.

The process to request your digital ID must be done in person at any of the offices of the Registry that have the technology to carry out this process. Remember that it is not necessary to book an appointment.
Payment for the issuance of the document can be made in person or through the PSE platform.

With the proof of payment, you must present yourself in one of the offices authorized by the entitywhere they will take your biometric and biographical data, and you will be asked for information such as your cell phone number and email address.
Once your physical document is delivered, you can activate the digital version through your cell phone.
