“87% of the population uses cash as a payment method and we saw how relevant it was for casinos. Businesses can generate these cash withdrawals of up to 3,000 pesos through a QR code,” Héctor Cárdenas, CEO and co-founder, said in an interview from Conecta.
The betting market left income in Mexico for 464 million pesos in 2022 and the figure is expected to reach 678 million in 2027, according to Statista.
The idea of this project is that people who do not have a card are not left out of business by giving them options to make payments.
“Casinos needed to give access to the unbanked so they can not only gamble but can withdraw when they win,” he added.
Mexico is in the top 10 of the countries that make the most visits to web casinos worldwide, according to Conekta, and the Oxxo payment solution will not only be offered to casinos, it will also be available to microfinance institutions.
The idea is that these companies that lend low amounts of money not only deliver the money at their branches but also with the QR code, they can collect at an Oxxo store.
To pay, customers can go to these same stores and pay off their loans. Conekta anticipates that in this way, clients can build a credit history that will later allow them to access more financing.
