The Diablo IV launch trailer has hardly any references to the game’s story, the one that starts 50 years after the events narrated in Reaper of Souls, when Inarius and Lilith return to Sanctuary. This couple’s story is a bit long and it didn’t end well for either of them. In short, Inarius banished Lilith to her abyss, while the archangel was delivered by his own to Mephisto, Lilith’s father, to be tortured until the end of time. Now both have returned to Sanctuary, the world they created to get away from the war and live in peace (which they didn’t get).
Although the story of any Diablo is interesting and a central element of the game, at least during the first game, here what it comes down to is eliminating demons and obtaining loot to become stronger and defeat more demons. In Diablo IV players will be able to destroy the minions of the Burning Hells with five different classes. Namely:
- Barbarian: A character with unmatched strength as well as an expert in melee weapons and battle cries.
- Druid, a savage shapeshifter who harnesses the power of earth, wind, and storm to unleash nature’s wrath.
- Necromancer, a summoner who commands hordes of the dead, drawing on bone, blood, and shadow.
- Rogue: Agile fighters specializing in close or long-range combat. They use imbued weapons and powerful combo attacks.
- Sorceress: they control the elements and thanks to their mastery of the forces of nature they launch lightning bolts, spikes of ice and rains of fire.
As the Diablo IV campaign completes, the world of Sanctuary will open up to make way for activities. endgame, one of the key points. Alone or in groups of four, the heroes will be able to participate in all kinds of PvE (player against the environment) activities where the main premise is “play your way”. Sanctuary has different world levels, what we all know as torments, and activities ranging from keystone dungeons and nightmare dungeons to activities outdoors that include events of all kinds. Sanctuary also has PvP (player vs. player) zones with rewards and where death is permanent for characters hard core.
Another of the pillars of Diablo IV are the systems that accompany the content endgame and that go beyond the choice of character skills. In this section we have the legend system, which adds more depth, customization and options to adjust the play style, and the Power Codex, where the aspects that appear in the dungeons are stored. These skins have legendary effects and can be added to an item to make it more powerful. To all this we must add the craft to modify objects.
Besides for him endgame, the future of Diablo IV goes through the seasons and the pass that each one will have associated. The Season Pass is optional and will offer a rewards track with free tiers that are unlocked by playing and leveling up, and premium tiers that are limited to cosmetics. Blizzard assures that “there will be no option to obtain more power by paying.” If we take a longer-term look, the developer’s intention is to expand the proposal with expansions like Reaper of Souls.
