The first season of Diablo IV begins at 19:00 CEST and to participate in it you just have to create a character in the realm of the season. This character will start from scratch, but will be able to skip the campaign, as long as it has been completed once in the Eternal Realm, will be instantly mounted, all discovered Lilith Altars will be unlocked, and all discovered map areas will be visible. Blizzard says that “Seasons give us the opportunity to introduce innovative gameplay mechanics. […] for a limited time.” They are also a way to create themes from scratch without having to worry about adjusting them to the mechanics of past or future seasons.
The theme of the Season of the Wicked, as the first season of Diablo IV is called, revolves around a new quest where players must help Cormond, a former priest of the Cathedral of Light, who is investigating a mysterious illness. Throughout this plot, players will learn how to capture evil hearts and turn them into powers with which to modify their settings (builds). This season introduces 32 evil hearts divided into four categories, each with its own color and keyword. Defeated evil monsters will drop a heart of the same color.
“The colors of the hearts also correspond to the special evil sockets, which will replace the normal sockets on the jewels you get during Season of the Evil Ones,” explains Blizzard. “Wrathful Hearts are a special case due to their rarity and you can place them in any slot.” As more and more dangerous evil creatures are defeated, the more powerful evil hearts they drop will become. Uninteresting hearts can be recycled in Cormond’s Wagon. One of the best places to get hearts is the new evil tunnels.
In Diablo IV the reward is the satisfaction of eliminating hordes of demons and gaining equipment to face more dangerous enemies. With Seasons, Season Journal and Battle Pass rewards are added. The Season Journal is divided into chapters in which you have to complete different tasks. Additionally, the Journal grants Favor (a resource used to level up the Battle Pass), which is also earned by playing as normal. Regarding the battle pass, it has 90 levels, of which 27 are free and 63 are premium. The premium version costs 9.99 euros.
