Delcy Rodríguez meets with Repsol to discuss plans for "energy cooperation"

September 14 () –

Venezuela’s Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has met in recent hours with the director of Repsol’s business unit in the Latin American country to discuss “partnerships with companies” and to advance plans for “energy cooperation.”

“Our country continues to move forward with its energy cooperation plans and alliances with companies that, like Repsol, trust and invest in the world’s largest oil reserve,” Rodríguez said, according to state-run Venezuelan Television (VTV).

The Vice President and Minister of Oil under Nicolás Maduro has also admitted that the collaboration with the Spanish energy company has allowed the expansion of the production of medium and light crude oil in various oil projects in the country.

According to VTV, the “synergies” between Venezuela and Repsol reinforce the country’s commitment to consolidate its position as a “leader in the global energy market, to promote development and economic stability through strategic alliances and international cooperation.”

This meeting comes a few days after Venezuela summoned the Spanish ambassador in Caracas, Ramón Santos Martínez, and called for consultations its diplomatic representative in Spain, Gladys Gutiérrez, in response to the “insolent, interventionist and rude” statements by the Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who has referred to the Government of Nicolás Maduro as a “dictatorship.”
