KABUL/ISLAMABAD, April 18 (DPA/EP) –
The heavy rainfall that has been falling these days in several areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan has already left 137 dead, while more torrential rains are expected in the coming hours.
At least 67 people have died in Pakistan after the unusually heavy rains that have been falling these days. In cities like Karachi, authorities have declared a state of emergency, after their poor infrastructure has been especially affected.
In Afghanistan around 70 people have died, while another fifty have been injured. The country's national disaster center has stated that more than 2,600 houses have suffered damage.
In recent months, both have recorded numerous deaths during the winter season, due to heavy rain and snowfall even though it has been one of the mildest winters in recent years.
The two countries are among the most affected by extreme weather conditions. In the case of Afghanistan, decades of conflict have made it especially vulnerable to the consequences of climate change.
