September 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The death toll from heavy rains in Japan has risen to six, after authorities confirmed the death of five people in the city of Wajima, in the Japanese prefecture of Ishiwaka, hit by the severe earthquake on January 1.
Two people have also been swept away by the river, one in the city of Noto and one in Suzu. The whereabouts of eight other people “whose safety is unknown” are also unknown, according to a police and fire department report reported by the NHK television channel.
The rains have had a major impact in Ishikawa Prefecture, where 115 villages have been rendered inaccessible by landslides and other reasons, potentially leading to long-term impacts. Thousands of households have been left without water service due to a series of outages and damage to pipes.
