Chinese authorities have updated the death toll to five dead and dozens injured in the explosion at a chemical plant in Northeast China’s Panjin that occurred over the weekend.
In addition, eight people are still missing, as reported by the country’s emergency services, as reported by the ‘China Daily’ newspaper.
A total of 370 people have participated in the rescue efforts, including firefighters and environmental protection workers. For now, the fire has been controlled.
On the other hand, the county government has ensured that air monitoring around the plant has not shown anomalies after the fire.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The incident occurred during a maintenance process at the facility operated by the privately owned Panjin Haoye Chemical Co. in Lianoning province.
