The balance of deaths due to the sinking of a boat in the waters of the Indus River as it passes through the city of Machka, in Pakistan, has risen to 23, while more than 25 are still missing, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Around 90 people have been rescued by emergency teams after the event, in which a boat in which a wedding was being held was involved, as reported by the Pakistani television network Geo TV.
The authorities have indicated that search and rescue efforts are still active, while they have detailed that so far the bodies of three of the victims have been identified.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed regret at the “loss of precious lives”. “We pray to almighty God to guarantee the deceased a place under his mercy and to give patience to the affected families,” he said in a message on his account on the social network Twitter.
