April 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Indonesian authorities reported this Tuesday that at least 20 people have died after a landslide caused by heavy rains recorded since Saturday on the island of Sulawesi.
However, rescue services have ended search and rescue efforts in several locations in Tana Tojara, a district in the south of Sulawesi province that has been seriously affected by the rainfall.
Of the twenty fatalities recorded, 16 have been found in the city of Manggau, while another four were found in Lembang Randan Baru, according to information from the Indonesian news agency Antara. The rescue teams have found the victims close to each other, as they have explained.
The authorities have also indicated that the number of survivors who have managed to be rescued currently amounts to 77. All of them have been evacuated from the most damaged areas and transferred to a nearby church.
At the end of March, the Asian country already experienced another episode of torrential rains on the island of Java, where at least five people died due to a landslide, according to authorities. In early March, another episode of heavy rain left 30 dead in Sumatra.
