Vietnamese authorities have raised the death toll to 21 as a result of Typhoon Yagi hitting the northern part of the country. Typhoon Yagi is considered one of the most powerful typhoons in the last 30 years and has already left more than 220 injured and three missing.
The Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention and Control said more than 8,000 houses had been damaged by the storm, which also caused power outages and communication disruptions in Quang Ninh, Hang Phong, Thai Binnh, Hang Duong and Hanoi, the Vietnam News reported.
At least 25 boats have sunk in Quang Ninh, dozens of power lines have been damaged, around 109,000 hectares of rice fields have been flooded, as have 17,900 hectares of other crops and more than 1,000 fish cages.
