Death toll from Israeli offensive in Gaza Strip rises to 42,500

MADRID 18 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least 42,500 people have died in the Gaza Strip, victims of the military offensive launched by Israel more than a year ago, in response to the attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped. .

The Gaza Ministry of Health, linked to Hamas, this Friday raised the provisional death toll to 42,500 after adding another 62 deaths in the last 24 hours. In addition, the number of injured exceeds 99,500, although authorities suspect that the number of victims is higher because there may be people under the rubble or in inaccessible areas.

The Israeli Government confirmed on Thursday the death in Gaza of the main Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, who died in combat with the Defense Forces (IDF). The international community hopes that dialogue will now be resumed for a ceasefire that will allow, among other things, the release of the hostages still held captive in the Strip and the entry of humanitarian aid.
