( Spanish) — The Game Awards 2022 awards this December 8 awarded to the best video games of the year 2022, with Elden Ring, the work of From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki, as the great winner of the night taking the two main prizes: the Game of the Year (GOTY) and Best Director. In addition to the awards, the event is usually a space in which new video games are announced and shown and this 2022 edition did not want to be left behind in that regard and has had great surprises.
During the more than two and a half hours of the event, different video game trailers and announcements could be seen. We compile the highlights of the night
Death Stranding 2
The legendary and media Japanese creator, Hideo Kojima, returns to the fray with a sequel to Death Stranding. The original work by Kojima Productions, published in 2019, surprised by its cryptic approach, the story it told of connecting the world and, especially, by the playable proposal centered on walking through meadows, mountains and rivers, while carrying a baby in a capsule that allowed spectral entities to be detected. What seemed like a closed story now returns with a new installment that will once again have Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker in its cast and will also add Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsana. The trailer itself ends with a mysterious message that questions: “Should we have connected?”
Hades 2
Supergiant Games established itself as a benchmark on the independent scene in 2018 after Hades (although they had previously achieved success with Bastion, Transistor and Pyre), the roguelike action game set in the Greek underworld starring Zagreo, son of Zeus, which combined gameplay dynamic and exquisite artistic style. The surprise of these The Game Awards 2022 came hand in hand with the unexpected announcement of a sequel starring the Princess of the Underworld, who will seek to end the Titan of Time, Cronos. It will be released in 2023.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
From Software, the creators of the winner of the best game of the year 2022, Elden Ring, and of the successful Dark Souls saga, Bloodborne and Sekiro, returns to one of the sagas that made the studio popular in the 90s and 2000s along with King’s Field. Armored Core are mecha action games and it will definitely be a change from the action games they worked on in the last few years (it’s been 10 years since Armored Core V). Hidetaka Miyazaki himself will be involved as a director in the first stages of the video game to end up being directed by Masaru Yamamura. It will be published in 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S.
Judas
Ken Levine, one of the biggest names in the video game industry after creating the successful Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite and System Shock 2, returns with a new video game after 10 years without hearing from him: Judas, a new first-person action video game in the that the narrative will again be the great protagonist but in a science fiction setting.
earthblade
Celeste, the platform title published in 2018 that had a strong message about depression and anxiety, was one of the great surprises on the indie scene in recent years and its creators have something new: Earthblade, a new metroidvania, this time most fantastic cut. It will arrive in 2024.
