dead space is a game that managed to earn its place in the survival horror genre last decade. Although it was successful in many aspects, the title is not perfect and as an example is an element that EA Motive modified to avoid frustration.
There are less than 2 weeks left until the remake of the 2008 title goes on sale and players discover all the news. However, the team behind the project continues to share details ahead of the release and one of the latest revelations is that a change was made to make exploring the Ishimura less complicated.

The map will not be the same in the remake of dead space
We are talking about the map. However, we are not saying that in the sense that the new Ishimura ship will have locations that were not present in the original game. We mean that the map itself will be displayed differently, since it will be 2D instead of 3D. At first glance, that could be a negative or a downgrade, but the opposite is true.
While the map looked kind of cool in 3D and didn’t clash with the game’s futuristic setting and technology, the truth is that manipulating it wasn’t that easy.
In case you missed it: Electronic Arts dropped a feature in both the original game and the remake that would make it feel more suspenseful.
In an interview with reversethe director of production, Joel MacMillan, acknowledged that it could be “a bit frustrating” to control and locate yourself on the original 3D map.
“You’d have to kind of rotate it to figure out the best angle to see where your character is and where you needed to go”; so, in this aspect, instead of embellishing this aspect, it was decided to simplify it and present it in 2D in favor of its “clarity and readability”.
Below you can see a sequence that shows how the original map was projected in 3D. We have not yet been able to see how the map appears in the remake. However, it is important to mention that the 3D map did not last long in the franchise, since in later installments it was decided to change it to 2D.
