Darío Fajardo took office as the new Vice Minister of Rural Development and took the oath of office before the Minister of Agriculture, Cecilia López Montaño.
“The experience of Darío Fajardo guarantees that the peasant populations are protagonists of the agrarian reform and the transformation of the countryside”, said Minister López.
Fajardo is researcher of topics related to the Colombian countryside, agrarian policies, food security, rural development, land rights, peasant reserve zones, agrarian reform and economic studies, among others.
It is anthropologist from the National University of Colombia and has a postgraduate degree in Latin American History from the University of California, United States.
During his career, he has been a consultant to the Historical Commission of the Conflict of the Presidency of the Republic, the FAO, the UNDP and the Consultant for Human Rights and Displacement.
One of his main objectives as deputy minister will be to implement policies with a territorial approach, development of productive capacities and social organization of rural property, as well as the integral transformation of the country’s rural communities.
