Dalton (Copa América) foresees that Barcelona will double the audience of the competition

BARCELONA, May 30. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The CEO of the America’s Cup of Sailing and Emirates Team New Zealand, Grant Dalton, has predicted that holding the competition in Barcelona in 2024 will increase the television audience by 50% or even double compared to the last one, held in Auckland (New Zealand) in 2021.

He said it this Tuesday on the second day of the 38th Cercle d’Economia Meeting, which is held between Monday and Wednesday at the Hotel W in Barcelona.

Dalton explained that the New Zealand time coincided with the early morning in Europe and that, as it is held in Barcelona, it will be possible to get closer to the European audience.

He recalled the forecasts that the competition will have an economic impact of 1,200 million euros and that 1,900 jobs will be created in Catalonia, numbers that he has assured that he has not “seen before”.

Asked about the use of technology in his team, he has assured that they do not see themselves as a sports team, but as a technological one.

He added that they are currently developing artificial intelligence and a simulator to improve the performance of their ship.
