At least 18 people died in Mexico on Saturday after a passenger bus was hit by a truck trailer on a highway in the north of the country, authorities said.
Early Saturday morning, one of the trailers of a truck transporting hydrocarbons on the Victoria-Monterrey highway broke off and collided with a passenger bus, causing an explosion and, later, a fire, reported the Tamaulipas state prosecutor’s office.
“From the first investigations it is known, so far, that the deceased were traveling on the bus to Monterrey, the impact occurred due to the possible detachment of a container carrying fuel, in the direction of Ciudad Victoria,” said the prosecutor’s office. .
The bus victims were burned to death, the Army said in another statement.
