Kris Kristoffersonthe country music legend and winner of the Golden Globe for best actor, has died at the age of 88 at his home in Hawaii, as reported this Sunday by family spokesperson Ebie McFarland.
His influence on American music earned him to be named as “one of the best composers of all time” for the magazine Rolling Stone. The singer “changed the language of country music” when addressing socially progressive issues, as McFarland highlighted.
Born on June 22, 1936, his musical origins date back to when he began working in the maintenance of Columbia Records, the studio where artists such as Johnny Cash either Bob Dylanwhom he admired. In 1985, he would join supergroup The Highwaymen next to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cashthus bringing together the best country music singers of the moment.
However, before taking the stage, he had to abandon a promising military career in Germany in the 1960s, which he followed through family tradition. He also studied literature at Oxford Universitywhich surely favored his compositions years later.
He also dedicated part of his life to hollywoodparticipating in more than 70 films and in the saga Blade. With the 1976 film, a star is bornin which he worked with Barbra Streisand, was awarded a Golden Globe for best actor.
Kristofferson has left a deep imprint in music since he rose to fame at the end of the 60s. Among his repertoire, songs such as Sunday Mornin´ Comin´Down, Help Me Make It Through the Night, For The Good Times and Me and Bobby McGee.
