Council of State Colombia rejects a lawsuit against “fracking”

Fracking Colombia

() — The Colombian Council of State rejected this Thursday a lawsuit that sought to nullify the regulations that regulate the extraction of gas and oil, a technique known as “fracking” or hydraulic fracturing.

According to a statement from this court – which advises the Government and is the highest judge of the public administration – insufficient evidence was shown for the lawsuit to prosper, so the majority voted to deny the request.

The vote of the councilors was five in favor of the draft ruling and three votes saved or in disagreement.

According to the lawsuit, “fracking” represents a risky practice for life, health and natural resources, which was dismissed by the judicial body.

Fighting this controversial technique has been one of the flags of the campaign of President-elect Gustavo Petro, who assured that he would eliminate this practice during his government.
