Corrido singer killed after concert in Querétaro

Querétaro.- After leaving a concert in a plaza located in the city of Querétaro, the vocalist of the group “Emiliano Cuevas y Grupo Penumbre”, as well as the group’s accordionist, were shot to death.

The events occurred after 2:30 a.m. this Friday in the “El Mezcalito” bar in the plaza located at Centro Sur 40 and Avenida del Parque, in the Colonia Alhambra, in the capital of Querétaro.

According to witnesses, after the concert the singers went to the parking lot where they were intercepted by armed individuals who attacked them directly.

Emiliano Cuevas Montiel, vocalist and founder of the group, a native of the Guanajuato municipality of Villagrán, and a relative of various City Hall officials, lost his life there.

The victim was the brother of Liliana Cuevas Montiel, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Protection System for Girls, Boys and Adolescents of the Municipality; nephew of councilor Dora Elia Cuevas Villagómez, and relative of Manuel Cuevas Villagómez, director of Ecology, according to an obituary released by the Villagrán City Council, in charge of PRI member Juan Lara Mendoza.

The second victim was identified as David Noria, the group’s accordionist.

Emiliano Cuevas also performed narcocorridos and one of his most recent compositions was “El Equipo de 8”, which was recorded in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The crime scene was cordoned off and elements of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) collected evidence to integrate into the corresponding investigation folder.

An operation was implemented in the area, but so far no arrests have been reported through official channels as alleged perpetrators.
