Continuous innovation for the success of the 5G business at Huawei

Huawei 5G

Ritchie Peng, President of Huawei’s 5G Product Line.

During the Mobile Broadband Global Forum 2022 (MBBF2022)Ritchie Peng, President of Huawei 5G Product Line, delivered a keynote speech on “Continuous Innovation for 5G Business Success.”

Said Peng Honghua: “Global 5G has accelerated, and has reached the level of development that 4G has reached in the first five years, within three years.

Huawei has continuously invested in core technology innovation, architecture innovation, and algorithm innovation to build industry-leading Massive MIMO products, helping operators and users build a 5G network where everyone winning.

Massive MIMO is the cornerstone of high-quality 5G networks.

After three years of commercial use of 5G, networks, terminals and users have developed rapidly. This makes the experience of 5G users 10 times higher than that of 4G users and traffic grows 3 times higher for the leading operators, achieving a win-win situation for both users and operators. Massive MIMO is the core technology of 5G.

With its advantages such as large capacity, high power efficiency, and high integration, Massive MIMO has become the world’s leading 5G network technology. According to public data, operators leading the 5G traffic ratio use mid-band Massive MIMO as the mainstream for network construction.

Huawei continuously leads the innovation of Massive MIMO

Huawei has been focused on Massive MIMO for years. Over the years, Huawei has invested heavily in hardware and algorithm innovation, and has continuously released industry-leading products. Huawei’s UCA shipment volume leads the world.

Huawei has continuously invested in core technology innovation, architecture innovation, and algorithm innovation to build industry-leading Massive MIMO products.

In terms of hardware, Huawei has developed unique active and passive joint design innovations based on basic research on filters, power amplifiers, and new materials to achieve tighter integration, higher bandwidth, and lower power consumption. At the algorithm level, Huawei maximizes the advantages of the massive MIMO beam and builds a series of innovative algorithms, such as AHR, to achieve a better experience, wider coverage, and higher capacity.

Building on traditional AAUs, Huawei brings massive MIMO from outdoors to indoors. The industry’s only distributed MIMO sets a new benchmark for the indoor experience. In indoor traffic areas, the capacity can increase more than four times.

M-MIMO has also been brought to the FDD frequency band. Building FDD NR networks faces several driving forces: relieving 4G traffic congestion, empowering 5G tethering, and improving the capacity and experience of operators whose large TDD bandwidths are temporarily unavailable. To address this, Huawei applies ultra-wideband and multi-antenna technologies to FDD frequency bands to improve user experience and power efficiency and meet future network evolution requirements.

MetaAAU Leads the New Direction of Massive MIMO

Huawei’s MetaAAU, based on ELAA technology, is leading the innovation direction of Massive MIMO. At present, it has been deployed globally in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe, achieving the advantages of experience, coverage, traffic and energy efficiency.

In urban/suburban and indoor continuous deployment scenarios, uplink and downlink user experience can be improved by more than 30%, and traffic volume can increase by more than 20%. To achieve maximum power savings, halving power can be used while getting the same downlink experience and 30% more uplink experience, reducing base station power consumption by 30%, achieving maximum energy savings.

In the future, personal experience and the digitization of the industry will pose greater challenges to the capabilities of the network. Ritchie Peng said that Huawei will continue to innovate and build a greener and simplified 5G network with higher bandwidth, more channels, and more integrated products to speed up the 5G business cycle.

At present, it has been deployed globally in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe, achieving the advantages of experience, coverage, traffic and energy efficiency.

The 13th Global Mobile Broadband Forum is organized by Huawei, with the support of our industry partners GSMA and GTI. It offers an opportunity for adjacent mobile and vertical ecosystems to reconnect, rebuild and reimagine a fully connected intelligent world. Topics to be discussed range from harnessing the full potential of 5G to advancing the mobile future, including the latest developments in 5G-Advanced, intelligence and green 5G.
