23 Feb. () –
Congress has rejected, with the divided vote of PSOE and Unidas Podemos, a motion by Esquerra Republicana (ERC) to recover compensation of 45 days per year worked in case of unfair dismissal.
The ERC motion was the consequence of an urgent question that the ERC Labor spokesman, Jordi Salvador, who was a territorial leader of the UGT, addressed to Vice President Yolanda Díaz in plenary session on Wednesday of last week.
Finally, the initiative has not prospered in an unusual vote in the Lower House. Thus, while Unidas Podemos has voted in favor together with various government partners such as Bildu, ERC, Más País and Compromís; the PSOE has voted against it with the PP, Ciudadanos and PDeCAT. On their side, Vox, PNV and Junts have chosen to abstain.
GOVERNMENT DIFFERENCES ON THIS MATTER
The differences between PSOE and Unidas Podemos on this point were already appreciated in the debate on the motion this Wednesday. Thus, while the PSOE dismissed the proposal as a “tweet”, Unidas Podemos supported it because the ‘purples’ believe that dismissal in Spain is “too” cheap.
The specific proposal proposed to repeal the legislative modifications introduced in terms of unfair dismissal both in the labor reform of 2012, of the Government of Mariano Rajoy; as in that of 2010, of the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The motion also urged an in-depth analysis of the doctrine of the Social Rights Committee on the right of workers, recognized in article 24 of the European Social Charter.
