Sumar warns that the appearance has to be a turning point and that the minister has to bring solutions
Oct. 20 () –
The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, will appear next Wednesday, October 23, in the Plenary Session of Congress to account for the crisis situation that housing is experiencing and that has caused mobilizations in different parts of Spain.
Esquerra, Bildu and the BNG, regular partners of the Government, requested the appearance of the minister for housing, an issue that has become one of the main problems of society today.
Specifically, these groups demanded that Rodríguez go to the chamber due to the “inaction” of his department and the “lack of measures” to enable citizens’ access to decent housing, and has the support of PP and Sumar, among others. groups.
SUMAR WANTS YOU TO COME WITH PROPOSALS
And it is not only the parliamentary partners who are dissatisfied with the housing management, but the minority partner of the Executive, Sumar, has also criticized on repeated occasions and has asked for more ambitious measures to facilitate access to housing.
Sumar’s spokesperson in Congress, Íñigo Errejón, warned the minister that she cannot come to the plenary session “to give excuses” or ask for solidarity from the landlords, as she did a few weeks ago, and she has to “provide solutions” to resolve the problem.
Errejón emphasized that Rodríguez has to be aware that “all eyes and all attention will be on his appearance,” because society’s patience is “absolutely exhausted” with housing. Likewise, he recalled that Rodríguez’s appearance will come in the midst of a growing wave of “unprecedented” mobilizations, such as those in Madrid, Valencia, the Canary Islands, Seville or Barcelona.
“This appearance by the minister comes late, it comes at a time when patience has been exhausted, but it comes as a real turning point. The minister has to arrive with solutions under her arm and not with excuses,” he stressed.
CRITICISM OF RENT AID
Just last Sunday there was a massive demonstration in Madrid to demand the right to have a home and to protest against the high prices and difficulties in owning a home.
In response to these demands, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, presented on Monday a new call for aid from the Young Rental Bonus, which will be endowed with 200 million euros to provide aid of 250 euros to those under 35 years of age.
And the measure has provoked a wave of criticism from Sumar and other regular parliamentary partners of the Executive. Both Sumar, Podemos and ERC have warned that aid will only serve to raise prices if it is not accompanied by policies that cap rental prices.
