The United Nations World Data Forum (UNWDF) brings together experts, policy makers, data professionals and other key stakeholders to discuss the role of data in global development. Its main focus is on how to leverage data to monitor and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), improving decision-making through more accurate, inclusive and accessible data. It also seeks to promote collaboration across different sectors to address global challenges such as poverty, climate change and inequalities.
The fifth edition of the World Data Forum will be held in MedellĂn, Colombia, from 12 to 15 November 2024, with the participation of more than 3,000 attendees, including representatives of national statistical offices, private sector organizations, academia, international organizations and civil society. By bringing together experts from diverse sectors, the event seeks to strengthen National Statistical Systems and improve understanding of broader data ecosystems.
The agenda of the World Data Forum 2024 will focus on four key thematic areas to structure its program and promote practical solutions to improve the use and management of data, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals:
1. Innovation for inclusive data. Promotes the integration of different data sources, ensuring that all populations, including the most vulnerable, are represented and participate in data collection processes.
2. Use and value of data for decisions. It seeks to improve data literacy, ensuring that information is used to improve lives, combat misinformation and support informed decision-making.
3. Trust, protection and ethics in data. It emphasizes the application of ethical principles and privacy protection in data management, ensuring trust and transparency, while maximizing the value of open data.
4. Partnerships for an equitable data ecosystem: Promotes cooperation between public and private actors to strengthen resilient data ecosystems, supported by sustainable financing and coordination mechanisms.
On 13, 14 and 15 November, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will participate in events related to the main thematic areas, as well as in some parallel events of this Forum.
