Colombia closed the year 2024 with a considerable increase in its coffee production, reaching a figure of 13.9 million 60-kilogram bags. This result represents a significant positive variation in the last 12 months, in which production went from 11.3 million to 13.9 million bags, with a preliminary value of the harvest of $16 billion.

According to Germán Bahamón, general manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers, “With optimism and satisfaction for the duty fulfilled, we observe a growth of 24% compared to the calendar year 2023, thus maintaining the growth path that we have been on since that same year.”.
The monthly behavior, that is, in December, also reflected notable growth. During that time last year, Coffee production showed an increase of 47% compared to the same month in 2023consolidating the upward trend registered throughout the year.

In the area of exports, the figures were also positive. During the last 12 months, an increase of 16% was recorded, reflected in a rise from 10.5 million bags exported in 2023 to 12.3 million in 2024. In particular, The month of December 2024 stood out for a growth of 20% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In contrast to the increase in production and exports, coffee imports showed a significant drop. While in 2023 imports of 94,000 bags were recorded, In 2024 this figure decreased to 26,000 bags, which represents a negative variation of 72%.

According to the general manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers, “lThe efforts made by coffee growers and led by the union in terms of renewal, fertilization, growth of the participation of resistant varieties, are and will be the key to growing production with the firm purpose of sustainable coffee growing for the producer based on their productivity”.
These figures also suggest a favorable impact on the national economy, considering the importance of coffee as an export product and source of income for the more than 500,000 coffee-growing families in the country.
