Colombia and Venezuela stage the "historic" reopening of their borders

This Monday the border area between Colombia and Venezuela was reopened, seven years after the decision of the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to close the border between the two neighboring nations.

The presence of Maduro and his Colombian counterpart Gustavo Petro is expected. Petro, who is already in Cúcuta, is expected to meet Maduro at the Simón Bolívar International Bridge in Villa del Rosario.

“Hopefully, without restrictions, a Colombian truck from Guyana to Patagonia throughout the extended Andean community can carry our products and bring what we need. That a family that wants to know our America can do it,” the president wrote this morning, in your Twitter account.

For his part, Maduro pointed out on his social networks: “It is a historic and transcendental day!”

Although hundreds of Venezuelans cross the Simón Bolívar international bridge daily, Venezuelan and Colombian authorities are expected to walk to the middle of the bridge and shake hands. Then, cargo transport will begin to pass through the Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Paula Santander (Cúcuta) international bridges.
