Colombia and the US enhance cooperation in security and defense

At the meeting, Velásquez highlighted the importance of the cooperation received from the United States and the need to maintain an effective capacity to control the territory by the Military Forces to guarantee the transformation of Colombia and the proper implementation of peace processes, his office said in a statement.

For its part, Nelson thanked the Colombian Government for the importance which gives respect for human rights and the Welfare Policy for the uniformed members of the Public Force and their families, reiterating the productive bilateral relationship between both countries, which has a direct impact on regional security, added the Ministry of Defense. .

Another topic discussed at the meeting was migration, of which Velásquez underlined Colombia’s commitment to the protection of migrants as well as the duty of his ministry to continue operations against criminal organizations that take advantage of migrants.
