Actress and model Chrissy Teigen recently shared that her family is going through a difficult time, as her son Miles, just 6 years old, was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
However, the revelation was not spontaneous, but It arose from an image that Teigen shared on social media while attending the Olympic Games.
In the photo, Miles, along with his sister Luna and his mother, were seen holding up a sign in support of Simone Biles. The model’s followers noticed that the little boy was wearing a continuous glucose monitor, a device used by people with diabetes.
In the post, the wife of singer John Legend told her followers that Her little one had been diagnosed just a few weeks ago when he fell ill after spending a few days at a camp.
“So many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever seen on this platform. You noticed her type 1 diabetes tracker and gave her so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was, and am, so amazed by the kindness of this community,” she wrote.
How did Chrissy Teigen know her son had diabetes?
The model explained that her son fell ill with shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria present in food or water, and was taken to the hospital.
“A lot of his friends were sick too, since they all went to the same camp, and well, that happens. But the doctors knew there was something else wrong with their blood tests,” she said.

“After further testing, we learned that he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of his life with type 1 diabetes. We gave him his first insulin injection last night and here we go! A whole new world for us and we are definitely learning as we go,” she added.
Teigen shared that she read a children’s book called “Year 1 with Type 1” with her husband. She cried when they exposed a page to her son.
“I had to leave the room even if he didn’t see me crying,” she said. “He loves this book so much.”
“I know. Things could be so much worse! So many parents around the world are going through unimaginable things that I could never imagine. I tell myself this every time we get a red alert on our phones. And we are so lucky to have so much help and a wonderful, kind, big-hearted specialist,” continued Teigen, who is also mom to Esti Maxine and Wren.
